Day 51 – Old Women Bay, Lake Superior Provincial Park, ONT

Old Women Bay, ONT to Old Women Bay, ONT: Daily miles 0.0, Total miles 748.5

I didn’t even bother getting up this morning. The shaking of the tent and sound of the waves pounding the beach warned me of the lakes condition and didn’t necessitate further investigation. I didn’t even wake up until 10AM and didn’t crawl from my sleeping bag until noon when lunch demanded my presence.  I spent most of the day reading and sitting around.  I hiked the Nokomis trail that runs up the ridge overlooking the lake.  It was nice to stretch my legs and see the lake from a different perspective. It looks a lot bigger from high up.  The slow pace is discouraging and the joy of making progress ceased with our movement today.  I feel so far from finishing and the time remaining keeps getting smaller and smaller.  If we could only get a consistent period of motion like we had in the beginning.  But the weather offers no quarter and we move according to its will. This exercise in patience is wearing thin.   It is one thing to suffer the discomforts of adventure when you are making progress toward your goal. It is wholly another to sit idle and suffer them still. Another day has passed. To say I didn’t gain any benefit would be untrue.  The bay is beautiful, the power of the surf is awesome, and any time spent outside is a gift.  I am just getting frustrated. I look forward with hope to tomorrow. Perhaps the winds of fortune will, quite literally, shift and we will be permitted to make our way home.
